About Us

Yalgan is a 100% Aboriginal owned and operated Sunglasses brand.

HOW YALGAN STARTED

Yalgan was launched in 2024 by Aboriginal woman Savannha Roberts to raise awareness and promote First Nations cultures.

Yelgun, meaning sunlight and place of first light on Australia’s most easterly point, is committed to shining a light and sharing our First Nations cultures through our lenses, which are distributed nationally across Australia.

We plan to expand internationally and help share our stories across Australia, oceans, and other continents.

Below, you can learn more about our Sunglasses and Savannha, our CEO.

Our Sunnies

ABOUT OUR SUNGLASSES

As an Aboriginal business, looking after the country is part of our DNA. At Yalgan, we do this by ensuring the sustainability of our products and operating sustainably.

Wooden sunglasses are incredibly lightweight, up to 33% lighter than similar plastic frames. They feel light and fresh all day long.

All Yalgan sunglasses are natural and eco-friendly. Unlike plastic sunglasses, which take upwards of 450 years to decompose, wooden sunglasses break down naturally in compost.

During their life, sunglasses act as a carbon sink by storing CO2 in sunglasses, allowing another tree to grow and removing more CO2 from the atmosphere.

Savannha

Jingela (Hello),

My name is Savannha Roberts. I am a proud Aboriginal woman and I have connections with the Bundjalung, Dunghutti and Barkindji nations. I was born and raised in Sydney on Gadigal and Bidjigal Country.

I am the Founder and CEO of Yalgan, we are a 100% Aboriginal owned business based in Glebe on Gadigal land, but shipping nationally across Australia with plans to go international.

I was given this opportunity to create Yalgan by embracing and sharing my Aboriginal culture and passion through the retail industry. We must continue to expand our culture within the retail industry to drive awareness of First Nations cultures, as well as show Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples they can achieve their goals.

I am passionate about my role in growing Yalgan and helping to showcase culture, and business success, and hopefully as a result encourage many more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and young people to become entrepreneurs.

After representing my culture at an international level for sports in Ireland and New Zealand, I believe that there aren’t enough First Nations businesses operating internationally. My ambition is to grow Yalgan to reach all eyes across the globe and help raise awareness of our amazing culture.
